Parent Mentor Program

What is Parent Mentoring?

The Parent Mentor Program is a home-visitation program that serves to promote healthy families. The program focuses on the population of families who are overwhelmed by the stress of parenting. Families supported through the Parent Mentor Program can be helped to develop new ways to perceive and respond to stressful situations, and new ways to effectively parent their child(ren), thereby reducing the risk of child abuse.

What services does a Parent Mentor provide?

Parent Mentors empower parents with skills for successful parenting. With mentoring support, parents will increase their knowledge about child development and parenting, develop a feeling of competence in parenting, learn how to manage everyday and unpredictable stress, build supportive social networks, and increase awareness of community resources.

Who is eligible for the Parent Mentor Program?

The Parent Mentor program is open to all parents of young children (age 12 or under) in DuPage County who have an interest in learning more about parenting and would like a mentor to visit them in their home.  Since the Parent Mentor Program has a prevention focus, families involved in the Department of Child and Family Services are inappropriate referrals.  If you’re interested in becoming a part of the Parent Mentor program, please contact us.
